direction (blue) introduce a phase shift from echo to echo that increases with the distance form the isocenter. (b, c) Schematic example for acquiring three ROIs with two of them (ROIs B and C) overlapping with a conventional projection (dashed gray). With the phase shifts introduced by the blip gradients in the slice direction, the projection direction (dashed blue) is tilted by an angle that increases with the distance from the isocenter and allows separating the two ROIs in the image.

Brain Activity Map Extraction of Neuromyelitis Optica Patients Using Resting-State fMRI Data Based on Amplitude of Low Frequency Fluctuations and Regional Homogeneity Analysis

Introduction: Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) is a rare inflammatory disease of the central nervous system which generally affecting the spinal cord and optic nerve. Damage to the optic nerve can result in the patient's dim vision or even blindness, while the spinal cord damage may lead to sensory and motor paralysis and the weakness of the lower limbs in the patient. Magnetic Reson...

Effect of Phase-Encoding Reduction on Geometric Distortion and BOLD Signal Changes in fMRI

Introduction Echo-planar imaging (EPI) is a group of fast data acquisition methods commonly used in fMRI studies. It acquires multiple image lines in k-space after a single excitation, which leads to a very short scan time. A well-known problem with EPI is that it is more sensitive to distortions due to the used encoding scheme. Source of distortion is inhomogeneity in the static B0 field that ...

Improving the spatial resolution of whole-head magnetic resonance inverse imaging using partition-encoding gradient blips

Using simultaneous acquisition from multiple channels of a radio-frequency (RF) coil array, magnetic resonance inverse imaging (InI) achieves functional MRI acquisitions at a rate of 100 ms per whole-brain volume [1]. InI accelerates the scan by leaving out partition encoding steps and reconstructs images by solving under-determined inverse problems using RF coil sensitivity information. Hence,...

Towards motion insensitive EEG-fMRI: Correcting motion-induced voltages and gradient artefact instability in EEG using an fMRI prospective motion correction (PMC) system

The simultaneous acquisition of electroencephalography and functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG-fMRI) is a multimodal technique extensively applied for mapping the human brain. However, the quality of EEG data obtained within the MRI environment is strongly affected by subject motion due to the induction of voltages in addition to artefacts caused by the scanning gradients and the heartbe...
